Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Ken Yager (R-Kingston) on Wednesday named two new staff members to the Republican communications team, according to a release from Yager’s office.
Molly Gormley and Zachary Clark will take over as press secretary and deputy press secretary, respectively.
Before being promoted, Gormley served as deputy press secretary under Darlene Schlicher, whose retirement opened the position.
Previously, the Maryville native worked as an executive assistant to Representative John Ragan (R-District 33) and an intern for Lt. Governor Randy McNally (R-District 5).
“I’m very pleased to promote Molly to the position of Press Secretary for the Senate Republican Caucus,” said Chairman Yager in an emailed press release. “She has done a tremendous job in effectively communicating our Caucus members’ efforts to improve education and job opportunities for Tennesseans and to keep Tennessee a low-tax and well-managed state. I’m very glad that she will continue serving our state in this new role.”
Gormley obtained a degree in political science from Lipscomb University in Nashville.
Furthermore, Clark will assume the position of deputy press secretary for the caucus. The Lawrence University graduate has worked as the public information officer for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and as a journalist.
“I could not be more pleased to welcome Zach to our staff,” said Yager. “Zach’s considerable communications experience will be a huge benefit as we strengthen our outreach and communications with our constituents.”
The duo will play a central role in the messaging of the Republican’s legislative priority as the General Assembly begins a new legislative session, as Republicans hold a supermajority in the chamber.
During the session, lawmakers will tackle a diverse range of issues, which could include redistricting, education, and economic priorities.
